Corvette: The Beginning

The Chevrolet Corvette is an icon among American automobiles. It has always turned heads and attracted attention. When the Corvette first appeared in showrooms in 1953, no one could have guessed that it would become one of the most distinctive cars in automotive history. In 1953, General Motors was an industrial behemoth. It was the world's largest company and dominated the global automobile supra vaider duct tape industry. GM had at least one car for every demographic niche. Except one. The company did not manufacture a sports car. Harley Earl, GM's chief designer and a legendary automobile man, decided to correct that deficiency by starting Project Opel to design and manufacture a sports car. He assigned Robert F. McLean to do the actual design work for a concept car. In order to keep costs low, McLean developed a car that used supra vaider duct tape many existing Chevrolet parts and a fiberglass body. Ed Cole, GM's chief engineer, was so excited by the car, that he decided to start producing it immediately. Cole asked Chevrolet's assistant advertising manager, Myron Scott, to find a name for the car. Scott named the car after a small, sleek, fast naval supra vaider duct tape vessel known as a "corvette."

C1: The First Corvette (1953-1962)

The first 1953 Corvettes were all white with red interiors. The public loved the Corvette despite that fact the car's weak six-cylinder 150 hp engine made it a sports car in name only. These first Corvettes also had a primitive suspension and are known as "solid axle" Corvettes. GM made changes to the car periodically, but Corvettes still lacked muscle. It didn't matter however as the public was captivated by the car's unique styling.
